Amelia Eversole

these aren't the highest quality pictures because I lost the original files in a failed backup. But the first photo was meant to follow the complimentary/contrasting on the color wheel. I chose green and magenta.

This second picture is titled "The Breakup." It's a representational portrait of how the last time I turned into a little pig and ate a ton of food, mostly chocolate, and devoured hours and hours of Netflix.

  1. I really like the way the colors you chose work in your color image. That plant is a really fun shape, too! Effectively creates a nice eye path and keeps the viewer interested.

  2. Both photos are very successful! My only suggestion is because it is so crisp and clean make sure the pot of the plant is level. I like the color choices.

  3. I like your eye path for the plant and I also like the simplicity of it so the colors really stand out! I think that I would have liked to see a little more contrast between the pig and the covers. They are pretty much the same value so they kind of blended together when I first looked at it.

  5. i love the different shapes that the plant creates, especially with the neutral background, so that was a good choice. i also love the stark contrast in the black and white

  6. I love the plant picture, and I think that the colors work really nicely. I think that the black and white is lacking in a contrast of value between the pig and the covers. If there was a bigger contrast the pig would make a stronger focal point.

  7. I like the first one, the only thing I would have to say is that the flower pot looks a little tiny bit off balanced which is driving my OCD crazy haha. also on the black and white one I would make the pig maybe a lighter grey color so that it stands out from the white because right now it blends in with the background a bit

  8. I agree with the above comments on the first image. Your color scheme is lovely but if you could straighten the plant that would be great. I also personally would love to see that image without the hand in it. But over all a job well done on that photo. I really enjoy it. I like the concept behind your second image I would just like to see a little more contrast in it because I feel like the pig gets a little drowned out by all the other white objects.

  9. The colors in the top one work really well together. The flower pot could be a bit straighter but I still love the picture. I feel the same as the above comment that the pig do get drowned out by the white.

  10. I like the green and magenta in your first image, I kinda wish there were more color because it is just so subtle. I really like the depth of field in your black and white image.

  12. The smaller amounts of color against a white background look nice. The black and white image has nice contrast. Cropping the right edge a little more to put the pig's face a little more on the rule of thirds line would put more focus on it. My eyes first traced the fabric line before I noticed the pig.

  14. I really like both of your images! the color use is subtle but effective and the composition of the second one is nice

  15. Color
The composition is a bit boring. While the plant itself has some interesting things going on, it's not as eye-catching as it could. I would think about things such as:
    - placement
    - cropping - a closer crop would help bring the viewer in; right now I get lost as to where I'm supposed to be looking, despite the bright colors on the plant
Also, it'd be nice to have the plant's pot to be straight -- it's tilted a bit right now and, since it seems like the rest of the piece is straight, it looks out of place.

    B+W
Love your composition and the concept. Unfortunately the piggy gets lost! With it being the same value as the surrounding subjects (except the chocolate), it disappears while the chocolate bars stand out on their own. A greater range of value would help the pig "pop." This could be particularly effective if the pig was the lightest object in the composition while the others - including the background possibly - are darker in value.
