 Black and Whie

Complementary

  1. Your black and white is an interesting subject. I think both would benefit by slightly different compositions, maybe by getting up close or cropping differently, especially in the color photo so you are able to emphasize those complementing colors.

  2. I would suggest letting these photos tell more of story - right now it feels more like they're telling a documentary. Let the viewer see some unique details or personality relating to the subject.
I do think the blue and red in the color photo work nicely together.

  3. I would love it if the red stood out a little more in your color photo. I feel like it would be a more successful complementary piece if the red was a bit more vibrant or the blue was a bit less vibrant.

  4. I LOVE your color landscape! I think the shadow on the ground balances well with the mountain, as opposed to there being no shadow on the ground at all. The small white cloud also provides a good focal point that is nicely off-centered. I would suggest having more of a sun flare come through the tree at the top right. Sun flares can be super effective in landscape photos as focal points and can add a lot of interest to an outdoors composition.

  5. B&W: really interesting subject, but i get lost, with all that is going on and the shadows on the bottom left, just needs to be re-composed

Complementary: again just a few things distracting from the piece, like the cars, trashcan, or the stop light. re-positioning a a slightly lower angle i think would make a stronger composition.

  6. Your color image is lovely! It would be nice to have a subject matter in it as well, but the colors are nice and there is an eye path. Your black and white image tells a story, but feels like a lot of gray and then black.

  7. I think your black and white photo is really interesting, but I'm not really sure if there is a focal point - maybe add more contrast

  8. I like the content of the black and white photo. I like the movement from right to left.

  9. Im not sure if the color one is actually complementary.

  10. B+W
The range of values is lacking, so it's difficult for me to find the focal point of the piece. The composition could also use a bit of help -- since you have that really distinct perspective happening with the road and mountains, my eye wants to follow it. This means that I see the horse/rider last. What if you moved the horse and rider more into the path of those perspective lines?

    Color
Lovely snow scene and really pretty blues with subtle oranges going on. Unfortunately there isn't much of a hierarchy or focal point going on, so my eye isn't quite sure where to look first. I also think that the sky area of the picture could be cropped down, bringing the viewer's attention more to the other areas of the piece. Right now my eye tends to linger distractedly on the sky and then frantically try to find where I'm actually supposed to be looking...but I'm not sure where that is.
