The black and white photo isn't as strong as the color photo. The harsh contrast makes it difficult too see any details on the cat. The color photo is really great and I love how the red pops against the surroundings.
I love these photos! I feel that the first one would have been just fine with a solid background in gray or white, but the many different lines and shapes were slightly distracting. I still love it though because of the relaxed, intimate feeling you were able to create. It felt like a sunday afternoon nap. The second photo is great and I think you perfectly captured the essence of this assignment with it.
I really like your color photo, and I almost think it even works as a monochrome - the warm, almost sepia tone colors of the trees and grass work really well with the colors of their jackets. It feels like a memory.
I would also like to see more value in the cat, but other than that I love your photos! I love your color scheme in the bottom one. It is lovely in that and the overall composition!
i love how in the color one, the background is neutral in color, but it adds to the photo. it is not boring, but adds to the story of the photo. i also love the leading lines which lead your eye right to the colored area of the people's jackets
The color photo is awesome! The color leads you right to the focal point, but the path and other shapes help lead your eye around the rest of the image.
B+W The kitty is so cute! I wish that there weren't as many lines/values in the background as they are taking away from the kitty's adorable-ness. It would also be really nice to have a bit more light on the cat. There are some nice highlights here and there, but they're getting lost (mainly because of the textures/values happening in the background). Your composition is pretty nice, although I think it'd be even better to crop in a bit -- you can lose some of that extra space around the cat.
Color Really nice pop of color -- it really makes the piece successful. The figure on the left gets a bit "tangenty" with the perspective of the trail and the line of the trees. Picky, I know, but if you were to move her over a bit to the right it would improve things (since you know, that's so easy to do). I also think it'd be nice to tone down the color in the left hand side of the foreground. It competes just a bit with the red (also easy to do, right?).
