I think it's really interesting how you framed the top photo. It's really satisfying, like when you make a perfectly round pancake or sort all the m&ms and there's an equal amount in each color. I think the black and white contributes to that overall satisfyingly organized feeling. The second photo isn't necessarily the most interesting photo, but I think you captured the color part of the assignment extremely well.
I agree with Amelia, I think the composition of your black and white photo is really great, and the black and white adds to the crisp lines. I think the colors of the second photo are great, perhaps composing it with some other subject matter might enhance it, but its strong colors make it great!
I like the way you used the color harmony in your color photo. The colors are bright enough to be seen at a distance and to work together. I do think it would be more interesting to look at if you shot the photo at a different angle, maybe from the side or closer to the tree. Centered like it is, it feels a bit stagnant and lifeless.
I usually don't like symmetry, I think you did a good job with the black and white one. I like that you chose to make that one black in white, it feels simpler that way. I think it would have a less definite focal point in color. The color picture is not as strong in composition, but I do feel the colors communicate the warm vs cold atmosphere
I really like the pictures but I think you could straighten out the black and white picture a little more. I really like the feel of the picture though.
I love the perspective of your B&W image! I definitely think that having it in black and white enhances the photo, because it allows the trees to frame the image with the darkest value and let the left row of cars balance out the trees's values. Plus, the skinny branch in the top-right corner balances the overall composition. Super good photo. In your color image, I love that the brightest red values remain at the top while the green is at the bottom. The proportion of green to the yellow leaves is really effective, too. I think it's a rather static photo, though, and could possibly benefit from the tree trunk being more to the side than right in the center. But great job on these!
I really like the tone and mood that the top photo has. I feel like it would not have the same feeling if it were not black and white.

ReplyDeleteI like the symmetry in your photos! My only suggestion would be to add a bit more cool color to your warm-cool, I feel like the warm overly dominates

Your black and White image has a good eye path. I'm not really sure about the eye path and focal point of your second image though.
