I think your photos are really awesome! I love it. I especially like the slight tilt of your subject matter in the black and white. ;) No, but seriously, your photos are sweet. I think your black and white photo could not work better in color! And your monochromatic scale is exquisite!
I think your b&w is really effective. The umbrella has the whitest white, and the figure is the darkest dark, so them being next to each other creates an automatic and strong focal point. It feels like it has a story and depth. The streetlamp through the trees is very distracting, though, and it feels very out of place. I would suggest changing the eye path of the color photo so that the viewer's eye stays in the picture. The way it is now leads the viewer's eye right out of the image. Perhaps having the girl looking at the camera or up would help.
Love your black and white image; you effectively created an eye path. For the second one, the cropping is a little tight. There's some visual tension especially at the top of her head.
I love the composition and concept of the black and white, but I wish that the streetlight wasn't the lightest value. If the umbrella was the lightest instead it would make a stronger focal point.
B&W: great composition, but the umbrella and lamp fight to be the main focal point and my ends up in-between on the bush. i wish it was a little darker to get rid of some of the distracting bushes, and to get a sharper image
Monochromatic: the composition is a little off, on the very right the bricks distract, focal point is being competed for by her face and the heart cup, maybe moving the cup to the third would help.
I like the composition on the black and white one, great leading lines, although I wish the girl or umbrella popped out more because it kind of blends in with the colors of the background
I LOVE your first image! Job well done. That is a stunning photograph. Your second is image is nice as well but I feel like the bright white of the mug she is holding distracts from the monochromatic theme you were going for and it just feels a little our of place in your color scheme.
Your black and white photo seems a bit busy. Maybe crop a some of the foliage out? The umbrella adds a nice and interesting focus point to the image. Your color photo works nicely for your color scheme, although maybe have a bit of a color tint to the mug.
Love the composition of black and white. It looks right. Second image has good values but not a lot of variety in chroma except for her mitten which is distractng.
B+W Nice composition as far as placement goes, however your values aren't working as well as they could and actually detract from the composition. Currently the main attraction is actually the sky, as it is the lightest value with the darkest values surround it (the trees). It would be nice to have a broader range of values to bring out your focal point, as well as to lead the eye more effectively.
Color Not quite a monochromatic color scheme. This seems more like a complimentary scheme with the red/orange and deep blue/purples. I'd also be careful of the tangents that are happening between the edge of the page and the subject's head.

ReplyDeleteI like the setup of your first pic, but i think it would be more effective if you had a wider range of value.
